GERMAN JAVELIN STAR KATHARINA MOLITOR TO CAPTAIN ATHLETICS WORLD CUP TEAM
German javelin star Katharina Molitor will captain Germany’s 45-strong team heading to next weekend’s inaugural Athletics World Cup in London (14-15 July).
Molitor has been one of the best javelin throwers in the world over the last decade; a status highlighted with her gold medal at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing.
Although the 34-year-old was unable to defend her title last year in London, Molitor still put on a strong showing at the World Championships and she will be back in the British capital next weekend.
The javelin thrower is one of two former world champions set to represent Germany in London with 2013 men’s pole vault world champion and 2015 world silver medallist Raphael Holzdeppe among the athletes to be confirmed for this new event.
Olympic bronze medallist Daniel Jasinski will represent Germany in the men’s discus, taking the total number of global medals won by athletes confirmed to be competing at the Athletics World Cup to 135 with China’s team still to be announced.
The German team features a mix of experienced athletes and up-and-coming talent, including European U23 champion Claudine Vita in the discus and last year’s Universiade 1500m champion Timo Benitz.
